MATCH REPORT 9/9/07
Freethorpe kicked off their season with a closely contested match against Halesworth. In an even 1st half, chances were few and far between, although midway through the 1st half Freethorpe failed to clear a corner and Halesworth managed to score from close range making the score 0v1. Despite going into the break behind, there was very little between the sides and neither keeper had really been tested. In the 2nd half, Freethorpe continued to battle hard - with Ashley really standing out at the back with a commanding performance. Throughout the 2nd period Freethorpe continued to push for a goal, although were limited to a few half chances. Towards the end of the game a long range lob from Halesworth was parried by Ben, only to fall to a Halesworth striker to tuck the ball away and make the score 0v2. Freethorpe never let their heads go down and continued to work hard and were rewarded when a long range shot by Tyler, lobbed the opposition keeper and bounced into the roof of the net. Despite losing the game 1v2, this was overall a good team performance, with 3 new players Dylan, Brandon and Kyle making their debut's for the team. Over the coming weeks, Freethorpe will need to focus more on their attacking play, as the opposition keeper was rarely troubled during this game. MoM Ashley Next match cup - away to Waveney B' - kick off tba
MATCH REPORT 16/9/07
Freethorpe this week travelled to Waveney B to play in the cup. Freethorpe came out of the traps quickly and scored early on with Jordan-Lee latching on to a throughball and slotting the ball past Waveney keeper. Within a couple of minutes a long range shot from Ashley bounced awkwardly in front of the opposition keeper and found its way into the net making the score 2v0. Freethorpe kept on the attack and before long found their 3rd goal, with a neat finish from Henry, whose goal was deserved in a lively 1st half performance. Waveney managed to get a goal back after some confusion in defence left Ben in goal with little chance with a forward running through 1 on 1. Jordan-Lee rounded of the scoring in the 1st half, with an opportunist finish from close range as the Waveney defence failed to clear the ball. With the half time score 4v1, Freethorpe should have gone on and won the game with ease, however when the whistle went in the 2nd half, it was Waveney who looked most threatening, with many of the Freethorpe players looking a yard or two of the pace. Before long Waveney got the goal they deserved, albiet slightly fortuantly after a Freethorpe pass was intercepted by the referee and feel kindly to Waveney who broke away and scored making the score 4v2. From this moment on, Freethorpe seemed to wake up again and had numerous chances to extend their lead before an excellent piece of vision and a pass from Jordan-Lee led to Tyler breaking through and finishing with a low shot into the corner. The game finished 5v2 and Freethorpe can pleased with this performance - our 1st ever victory in a cup competition. MoM Jordan-Lee - a 2 goal salvo and solid all round performance upfront. Next Match away to Caister B - kick off time to be confirmed
MATCH REPORT 23/9/07
Freethorpe this week travelled to Caister B on a bright sunny morning for football. Freethorpe started really well, playing some neat passing football and were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions, with Henry and Jordan-Lee showing some excellent link up play. Caister were battling well and took the lead, when an opportunist shot from way out caught Ben unaware and landed in the back of the net. From this moment on Freethorpe started to dominate, using the full width of the pitch and Freethorpe supporters were treated with some attractive passing football, some of the best seen since the majority of lads started playing together a couple of years ago. Before long, Freethorpe and drawn level, after a cross from Ashley found Henry at the far post and a neat finish from close range levelled the scores at 1v1. With Freethorpe gathering momentum, a corner from Ashley was met by the head of Jordan-Lee, whilst the ball hit the post, it fell back at his feet and a nice finish meant Freethorpe went 2v1 up. Freethorpe went further ahead with our midfield dynamo Tyler getting in on the act shortly before half time. Whilst the score remained 3v1 up until half time, Freethorpe had numerous chances and were unlucky not to extend their lead further. In the 2nd half, it was a much closer affair with Caister really working hard to try and get back in the game. With our keeper Ben having a quiet game in the 1st half, there was certainly more for him to do in the 2nd and some excellent saves helped protect Freethorpes lead. Midway through the 2nd period, Jordan-Lee flicked the ball over the last defender and with only the keep to beat finished excellently. The game finished 4v1, with Freethorpe picking up their 1st 3 points of the season - this really was a good team performance with everyone playing their part. MoM Henry - who caused opposition problems throughout
MATCH REPORT 30/9/07
Freethorpe are still searching for their 1st home win of the season, after being beaten by a strong Kirkley & Pakefield side. In a 1st half which flowed from one end to the other, Freethorpe were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions, with Henry, Jordan-Lee and Tyler all going close - without really testing the Pakefield keeper. Too often during the 1st period, Freethorpe were 2nd best in the midfield area, especially from keeper clearences or goal kicks, with too many unchallenged headers putting the Freethorpe defence back under pressure. In the 2nd half, the game really got going and at times it was frantic stuff. Kirkley & Pakefield took the lead with a brilliant counter attack and whilst Freethorpe had been working hard, it was a deserved lead based on the balance of play. At 0v1 down, Freethorpe continued to show great spirit, however just could not find the luck in front of goal, nearly equalising after an excellent cross by Liam was met my the head of Jordan-Lee, but going wide of the post. With Freethorpe trying to get back into the game, they were hit by another sucker punch, with some poor defending and clearances gifting a Kirkley & Pakefield striker a clear run on goal and then beating Ben with an excellent finish. At 0v2 down Freethorpe's heads could have went down, however they found themselves back in the game, with Dylan scoring his 1st of the season, turning and hitting a great shot from the edge of the area into the top corner. Freethorpe started to push for an equaliser, however with Freethorpe attacking, Kirkley & Pakefield always looked dangerous and but for some excellent saves by Ben, could have extended their lead on a couple of occasions. Kirkley & Pakefield then secured their win, with an excellent solo goal which got applause from both sets of fans. The game finished 1v3 and although Freethorpe done well, they were beaten by the better team on the day. MoM Brandon, for a solid performance in defence. Next match away at Swindell B in the cup - 1:00pm kick off.
MATCH REPORT 7/10/07
Freethorpe this week travelled to Swindell B in the cup and played out a hard fought game against evenly matched opposition. In a tight 1st half display, Freethorpe done well to keep a clean sheet, however seemed to find it difficult adjusting to a slightly bigger pitch and rarely threatened the Swindell goalkeeper. The teams went in 0v0 at the break, however the 2nd half was to be a much more open game, with some tough but fair tackling from both sides causing a few stoppages in play. Swindell took the lead early in the 2nd period, after a goalkeeping error left a Swindell attacker with an open goal from 4 yards out making the score 0v1. Freethorpe continued to battle after going behind, against a Swindell side who played some nice football at times. Matthew had a solid game at the back making some important tackles against a Swindell side breaking forward regularly. Freethorpe did have a couple of opportunities to score in the 2nd period, with Jordan-Lee hitting a nice shot well saved and Lee who bursted through the swindell defence shortly after coming on, only to be denied by the Swindell keeper. Midway through the 2nd half, Swindell were awarded a penalty and had they scored the game would surely have been over, however an excellent save by Ben in the Freethorpe goal ensured Freethorpe kept only a one goal deficit. Ben was to make a couple of other important saves after this, to keep Freethorpe in the game. Towards the end of the game Freethorpe pushed on and kept the pressure on Swindell defence, with only seconds remaining Matthew bursted through and hit a powerful shot from outside the area, Jordan-Lee reacted quickest in the Swindell Box and controled the ball and swivelled, however was unfortuantly unable to get any power on his shot, this was to prove Freethorpes last effort before the final whistle went. Freethorpe can go home with their heads held high, with all players giving a 110% throughout the game. MoM Ben for a 1st class penalty save and solid performance. Next match away at Shrublands A - kick off TBA
MATCH REPORT 14/10/07
Freethorpe this week travelled to Shrublands A in the league and came away with a victory. With only 8 players available, Freethorpe started well and put plenty of early pressure on the Shrublands goal, with a number of corners early on. Within 10 minutes Freethorpe scored, with Dylan latching on a ball in the box and finishing excellently past the Shrublands keeper. Before long Freethorpe scored again, with Jordan-Lee finding some space in the box and smashing the ball home to make the score 2v0. As the 1st half went on Shrublands came back into the game and got a goal back with a stunning finish which left Ben with absolutely no chance. Although Freethorpe continued to play a part in a competetive game, they never really looked like scoring again before half time. In the 2nd half, Freethorpe continued to put pressure on the Shrublands defence and had numerous opportunities to extend their lead, however a good goal keeper and some slack passing up front left Freethorpe frustrated. With only one goal between the sides, Shrublands started to come back into the game strongly and there were some nervy moments in the Freethorpe defence, however despite some tired legs Freethorpe managed to keep a clean sheet in the 2nd half. Jordan-Lee went close shortly before the end, with a free kick from outside the box which just went over the bar with the final score being 2v1. Dylan played by far his most effective game in a Freethorpe shirt this year and deservedly got MoM for some excellent wing play and a few shots on goal. Next match home against Gorleston FC B - kick off time tba
MATCH REPORT 28/10/07
Freethorpe this week travelled Beccles on a wet windy morning to play St Benets Wasps C. In what was an awful 1st half performance against the wind, there was not one Freethorpe player who stood out and a battling St Benets team opened the scoring midway through the 1st period. Although Freethorpe were trying hard, they seemed to forget pre-match instructions and rather than play the passing football they can, too much of their play was rushed and un-organised. At half time the score was 0v1, however with the wind behind them in the 2nd period, Freethorpe picked up their play. Tyler battled hard in midfield and his work was rewarded, after an excellent strike from 10 yards rattled into the St Benets net. After scoring Freethorpe continued to pile on the pressure, however were caught on the counter attack on a few occasions, which needed Matthew and the defence to stay focused. Freethorpe eventually took the lead and deservedly so, although the goal itself was rather lucky, a goalmouth scramble led to a St Benets defender trying to clear the ball, hitting Jordan-Lee in the stomach and looping over the defending keeper into the net. Although Freethorpe had other chances in the 2nd period, they didn't manage to put any away and whilst they came away with 3 points, overall it was a disappointing footballing display and with some tough matches up and coming the boys will need to raise their game MoM Tyler. Next Match Home against Hemsby C - kick off tba
MATCH REPORT 4/11/07
Freethorpe finally acheived their first home win of the season on Sunday, in game of two constrasting halfs against Hemsby C. During the 1st period, Freethorpe were mainly 2nd best, with Hemsby playing some nice football and taking an early lead. Hemsby continued to dominate throughout the 1st half, with keeper Ben making some excellent saves to help keep Freethorpe in the game. Freethorpe did threaten occasionally, with Henry unlucky not to have scored on at least one occasion. Towards the end of the 1st half, Freethorpe finally started to get back into the game, however they need to start competing my earlier in future games. Being 1v0 down at half time, a stern team talk was given and in the 2nd period, Freethorpe came out an played their best half of football this season against a strong Hembsy side, who had a couple of players who really caught the eye. Freethorpe got stuck in and started winning the battles in midfield, with Tyler having a fantastic game in the middle of the park. Freethorpe started to push on and got back level after a corner by Ashley was met by Liam on the volley. Throughout the 2nd period, Ben's goal kicking and Ashleys long throws and corners caused the Hembsy defence lots of problems and after drawing level, Freethorpe did not have to wait long before going in front. Henry found a little bit of space from a tight angle and slotted the ball home. Once in the lead, Freethorpe had to keep battling, with Hembsy looking threatening on the break - however a solid performance from Matthew and the rest of the defence helped to keep the Hembsy attackers at bay. With 10 minutes or so to go, Freethorpe scored again - with Henry making the most of another opportunity in the box and finishing excellently past the Hemsby keeper. The final score was 3v1 to Freethorpe, a really pleasing result against a quality side who certainly played their part in this game. This was a reallt good squad performance in which everyone played their part, with special mention to Hannah, Lee and Joseph who done really well when called upon during the match. MoM Matthew, for a commanding display at the centre of Freethorpe defence. Next Match Home against Sole Bay in the shield - kick off time TBA
MATCH REPORT 11/11/07
Freethorpe this week faced a strong Sole Bay Hunter side in the shield. In thee 1st half Freethorpe conceded an early goal, when a Freethorpe throw deep in the opposition half was met by a Sole Bay defender and a quick break left Freethorpe exposed at the back. Despite going a goal down early on, Freethorpe battled hard and worked a number of good scoring opportunities. Midway through the 1st period, the referee awarded a penalty for a hand ball in the box and upstepped Jordan-Lee, hitting the ball hard and low but the Sole Bay keeper made a fanastic save down to his left which left Freethorpe still 1v0 down. Jordan-Lee almost made amends shortly afterwards, after a weaving run took him past 3 defenders and into the box, an excellent cut back followed, although Joseph was unable to put the finishing touch from 2-3 yards out. Freethorpe went into the break 1v0 down, however can pleased with the effort and commitment shown by everyone. Shortly after the break, Sole Bay doubled their lead, when more sloppy Freethorpe defending, left Ben with no chance. At 2v0 down it would have been easy for Freethorpe to give in, however all players kept their heads up and were soon back in the game. Some excellent hold up play from Jordan-Lee and a nice through ball, left Henry 1:1 on with the keeper and our nippy winger didn't disappoint with an excellent finish into the bottom corner. After getting one goal back Freethorpe continued to put on pressure and were rewarded when a long throw by Ashley was met by a Sole Bay defender and ended up in the net. With the game tied at 2v2 Freethorpe had opportunities to go in front, however were eventually undone when some slack marking in the midfield area, left Sole Bay's star man, time and space to pick his spot from 15 yards. At 3v2 down with only 5 minutes to go, Freethorpe conceded a soft 4th goal, with Freethorpe defence failing to clear their lines and instead setting up a Sole Bay attacker with an easy chance from only 4 yards out. Although Freethorpe lost this game 4v2, this was overall a pleasing display in which the team showed great character in coming back from 2v0 down. MoM Jordan-Lee - although no-one in the team really stood out today, Jordan-Lee was a bright spark up front and created lots of problem for the Sole Bay Defence throughout the game.
MATCH REPORT 25/11/07
Freethorpe this week travelled to Yarmouth and faced an extremely competitive Swindell B side. With the icy cold wind blowing across the pitch, it wasn't necessarily the best conditions for football or for the supporters watching from the side of the pitch. In a tight first half, Freethorpe battled hard and had a couple of opportunities to open the scoring, however the Swindell keeper made some good saves. Jordan-Lee was a constant threat upfront - with a couple of driving runs and some nice hold up play. With some tough tackles going in on both sides, there were numerous breaks in the play however the game was played in a good spirit for the most part. At half time the teams went in even and this was a fair reflection of the game to this point. As the 2nd half kicked off. Freethorpe started to put on some pressure and before long opened the scoring, with Jordan-Lee breaking through and with a defender chasing him back, he cut back, beat his man and then finished excellently with a shot past the Swindell keeper. This was no more than Freethorpe deserved and before long the lead had doubled, with Jordan-Lee hitting an opportunist shot from the edge of the box which squirmed under the Swindell keeper and in the net. After this point substitutions had to be made to ensure those on the sidelines were kept warm and the changes meant Freethorpe lost some of the fluency in their play and Swindell got back into the game. With Freethorpe defence on their hills a long range drive hit the bar and bounced out to a Swindell attacker who finished nicely from 6-7 yards. After this point Freethorpe had to work really hard to keep their lead, with Swindell going all out for an equaliser - however with everyone giving 110% effort Freethorpe held out and finished the game with a 2v1 win. This was the teams best performance of the season, against a decent Swindell side. MoM Jordan-Lee - two goals and a real threat to Swindell defence throughout the game.
MATCH REPORT 9/12/07
Freethorpe this week travelled to league leaders Kirkley and Pakefield E on a cold, wet wintry afternoon. Freethorpe started well and applied some early pressure on to the Kirkley and Pakefield goal. Jordan-Lee went close within first 10 minutes, after beating a defender in the box, he drilled a low shot which came back off the post. Shortly afterwards a Freethorpe corner was headed out to the edge of the box, only to find Dylan waiting with an excellent volley which hit a defender and landed at Jordan-Lee's feet, our in form striker finished well from close range making the score 1v0. As the 1st half went on Freethorpe were pushed back and there were some nervy moments as Kirkley and Pakefield started to dominate the play. Ben made a couple of excellent saves during the 1st period, which meant Freethorpe came in at the break 1v0 up. In the 2nd half Freethorpe continued to battle really hard, with every player giving 100% in the cold and wet, however after 10-15 minutes Kirkley and Pakefield got the goal they had deserved, on the balance of play. At 1v1 Freethorpe were looking good for a well earned point against an excellent footballing side, however tired legs and some sloppy defending helped Kirkley and Pakefield to score twice more before the final whistle making the final score 3v1. Although this was a game lost, all Freethorpe players should be proud of the performance against a side who will be in the mix for league title at the end of the season. MoM Ben, for some excellent goalkeeping in horrible conditions. Freethorpe U10's are now on the look out for 4-5 players in preparation for 11 aside football next season, anyone interested please contact Gareth on 07828 982 120, Next match away to Sole Bay Hunters, kick off time to be arranged
Freethorpe this week travelled to Sole Bay Hunters and despite playing against a superior footballing side, never really got out of their stride, putting in their worst team performance of the season. With only 30 seconds gone, Freethorpe went one goal down, with sloppy defending by the whole team, allowing the Sole Bay attackers to bundle the ball home from 3-4 yards. After going one down, Freethorpe picked up their game a little, with Henry and Dylan causing problems on both flanks, however only managed to create a few half chances - none of which really troubled the Sole Bay keeper. Sole Bay soon went 2 v 0 up and this was nothing short of deserved, with Freethorpe 2nd to every ball and lacking the bite in tackles across the pitch and this was the score at the half time whistle. In the 2nd half, Sole Bay continued to pressurise the Freethorpe defence and scored again early in the 2nd period, when more poor defending left Ben with no chance when an attacker was only 3 yards out. Freethorpe did finally manage to get a fortuatous goal, with Jordan-Lee beating two men on the left wing and shooting from distance and the ball sliding under the keeper and rolling into the corner of the net. Freethorpe were to concede two more goals before the end of the game and were never really in this game, with the game finishing 5v1. Pleasing performances from Kyle and Lee, two of our fringe players were the highlights of disappointing display by Freethorpe. MoM Kyle - for some whole hearted tackles at the heart of Freethorpe defence
